Worldwide Candle Lighting Vigil Dec.14th, 2008

Each year the Compassionate Friends hosts the worldwide event in memory of our children by lighting candles at 7pm in each time zone so that a wave of light wraps around the earth for 24 hours. Please join us this year at Jersey Village High School (see info below) to participate in this event in our area.

The JV Players host this each year for us in memory of the daughters of their teacher/director. These students perform reading, songs, and more so we can share our pain & give each other our support. Feel free to bring a picture for the display table & you can take it back home at the end of the night. THere will be food, a balloon release and more.

November: Dr. John Schoonmaker will be the speaker. Topic “Dreams of the Bereaved”. Dr. Schoonmaker is a bereaved dad and a therapist specializing in dreams.

December: A candlelighting Service followed by an open topic of conversation at a difficult time of year.

We want to send a special invitation to those veterans of this grief to any of these meeting so those new to the pain can see that it is possible to progress through this world and find hope again!

Cafe Mom Support groups

For you moms, there is a website called Cafe Mom. The link is on our home page. Set up your profile & join, it’s free. From there you can join any group you want, including several grief support groups for bereaved parents as well as other losses. It’s helpful to talk w/ other moms, & they love sharing picures & stories! Feel free to add your comments here about your experience there!

Getting through the Holidays

Everyone has their own way of getting through the holidays. I got anidea from a woman who lost her son & this is what she said they do at Christmas:

“I find the holidays and anniversaries very difficult. For Christmas we hang up David’s stocking w/ the rest of them and throughout the Christmas season people write their good deeds and they are placed in his stocking since there is nothing else we can give him. Santa always brings him a white rose too. On the anniversaries we try to do something nice for other people — normally the NICU. We take a bunch of cookies or donate some books to help other moms or bereavement baskets to the NICU.”

I am sorry you have a need for us, but glad you found us. The meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of each month @ 7:30 pm. We are located in the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center, 3rd building back on the 2nd floor. We are off Cypresswood Dr., between the courthouse & the Barbara Bush Library. Hope to see you there!
